![]() 2 HAIKU | ![]() 01/06|05 Not one damn dime? Divest from the economy for the day as a method of sending a message? Believe me, IÕm behind all protest to the coronation of King George Bush, the 44th President of the US. I'm going to stock up at the farmers market, invite friends for food but my divesting will not bring much satisfaction or I believe much influence on the powers that be.
When some of the openhearted upper class gets to it, now there is some action that will have force. Could there be a big sell off of General Motors, Diebold, and Halliburton? Once some of the big companies that are invested in this War Economy begin to feel the pinch then some reaction may happen. Much like the pressure placed on the companies and Fund managers that were invested in South Africa felt the publicity and financial heat in the '90's. It worked!
Directing our monies to the right sources can have longer lasting effects and be a positive force in creating community. It only takes a bit of research to find out those companies that make products that you feel you need. Not in a PC 'holier than thou' posture. We have to move past that, erasing the line between red and blue is only about having some conversations, searching for common denominators.
A majority of this country now believes that the war in Iraq is badly managed, sold to us with lies and not worth it.
Where were all of you two years ago? How many that feel that it was the wrong decision now where screaming "support out troops" Again as after the first gulf war it is evident that the peace movement is the side that most supports the troops, especially the citizen soldiers of the National Guard.
For the coronation it's going to take 40 million dollars for King George to feel safe. There has to be something amiss when the leader of the free world has to lock down the entire center of DC to feel free enough to walk the streets. It's not hundreds of thousands of terrorists he is afraid of but grandmothers, grandchildren, teachers, laborers and common people who are willing to raise their voice in protest.
So yes not one damn dime! But when the day is over, let us start putting all of our damn dimes in the right place. May they add up to billions spent in the causes of peace and justice. Let's put Monies where our mouths are and only let our speech reflect where each step is going. We can't get out of this in fringe groups; it's time to live what America stands for. Real truth, real justice, really right now.
