![]() 2HAIKU | ![]() 05/16/05 Mainly this is just a day off, let's face it, most Americans think it's a signal that summer is here. Airfares go up, the sun is back, and the BBQ gets fired up. I got dead FAM, have some in my circle with recent war dead. When you have dead that you knew by eye contact Memorial Day is every day. These dead and especially this war, the freshest war, is painful in so many ways;are the recent dead the deadest?
The War ON Iraq is still going on and wracking up bodycounts for next year right now.
Numbers in the opinion polls show most of us don't believe the war was worth it.I resist the 'I told you so', well I guess I didn't but that's not it. Without being ashamed you supported the wrong team now is the time to get vocal in the halls of school, at work and yes even at the family back yard BBQ.
Today is the day to say, "I support the troops, stop sending them to die!" Lets craft a foreign policy and an economy that makes the world love us. That really reflects the values that America still stands for. This is a bloody and documented event in human history. It's embarrassing but understandable how turned off to talking about it all layers of American society are. While Star Wars tours the country and we mourn the dead for wars that meant delivering people from evil and not handing profits to oil companies, now is the time to say Stop this War!
It's easy to point and laugh; yes this is a simplistic concept. I understand that the instability in Iraq is going to take half a generation to quell. That's not an excuse for me that's a reason. We don't have any time to waste. We have to quit laying low in America, it's going to take more than a few pop songs, blogs and commentaries to bring it about but we must use what's in front of us. Start remembering what Memorial Day is about. People died because the people let them. We can turn it around, heal the warriors as they come back to us and change our communities and ourselves until one Memorial Day there will be no fresh graves to dress.
