![]() ![]() | Jala Neti Kriya: Nasal CleansingFill your neti vessel with luke warm fresh water, add a pinch of table salt, the warmth of the water shouldn't irritate for your sensitive nasal mucosa. We use a standard plastic baby bottle with the tip of the nipple clipped off and a hole placed in the bottom to generate flow. It's cheap, available everywhere and the toothbrush fits in it! Stand over a sink and check which nostril is working, meaning, slowly blow out air from each nostril and find out which one is clearer. Suppose its right, now hold the neti vessel in right palm, bring the tip of the vessel tube to the opening of the right nostril, press it in gently to check that there is no space between the tip of the tube and nostril opening. Keep the left arm folded at the back. Now open your mouth wide and keep lifting the right palm holding the vessel up together with the right nostril. At one point you would feel that water starts entering through your right nostril slowly and coming out in drops or maybe in a gentle streamline from the left nostril. Here one may get irritation as the water enters the septum region of the internal nasal chambers, stabilize and bear with it as this sensation goes away quickly. Relax, keep taking deep breath from the Mouth. Don't worry if water makes its way from the mouth also in the beginning. With a little practice it can be done in one or two breath cycles and become a regular part of your day.
